I understand Apocalypse Now is a masterpiece and this is a relatively new filmmaker's early work, but the underlying sub-plot of each film point to the idea of taking a journey into the depths of oneself wondering how far one can go with the overall goal of experiencing ego-death.
Please, before you stop reading because of this seemingly ridiculous comparison, hear me out. I'd go so far as to compare this film with Apocalypse Now. But if you look closer at the 'circular' storyline, you'll notice additional pieces are involved each time it comes back around. It is a strange concept and may seem a bit repetitive at times.
First of all, I can totally understand why there are bad reviews for this movie.
